Queenslanders have access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases that are not available through Google or other free search engines.

Onsite access at your public library or State Library
Onsite access is easy - visit your local Queensland public library or the State Library of Queensland and connect using one of the onsite computers. You may also be able to access these databases using the library's wireless service.

Offsite access
To access these databases away from the library - from any computer connected to the internet (eg home or office) - you must be a Queensland resident and:

  • own a State Library e-services card (register for an e-services card allowing 5 days to receive your card);
    OR
  • be a member of a Queensland public library with a QPL account (register for a QPL account - immediate access after email verification

Dance in Video offers more than 500 hours of streaming video which covers ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, experimental, and improvisational dance, as well as forerunners of the forms and the pioneers of modern concert dance. Included are classic performances from top ballet companies; experimental works from up-and-coming dance troupes; documentaries by and about leading choreographers; videos on dance training; and other items covering a wide range of twentieth-century dance styles.

Comprehensive data on all companies listed on ASX as well as delisted companies. The database is updated daily from announcements lodged at the ASX and includes corporate details, company histories and profile, shareholdings, full dividend history, operational history, 10 years financial and annual reports in PDF format back to 1995 and company announcements.

DELTAA: The Database on English Teaching for Adults in Australia

Produced by the National Centre for English Language Teaching and Research (NCELTR) Macquarie University, DELTAA provides a comprehensive index to journal articles and electronic resources relating to English as a second language. Also includes citations to teaching, adult migrant learning and literacy.

An international index to design and craft journals, daai contains annotated references on design and applied arts. Also contains 4 supplementary databases:

Produced by the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA), the DRUG database indexes journals, books, conference papers and proceedings, government documents, statistics, newspapers and discussion papers on substance abuse. The psychosocial aspects of substance abuse as well as the political, social, economic and legal aspects in the prevention and treatment of the abuse of drugs are comprehensively covered.

Produced by the Victorian Department of Natural Resources and Environment. FIAF International Index to Film Periodicals Plus

Contains over 400,000 article citations from more than 330 periodicals. It offers in-depth coverage of the world's foremost academic and popular film journals with many key titles available in full text including complete runs. It also indexes film archives' holdings of silent films as well as other documentation and bibliographic information held in film archives. Film Index International

One of the most important reference sources for film, containing data compiled by the British Film Institute Library over the last 60 years and also catalogue records of the National Film and Television archive. It contains information about more than 90,000 films dating back to the introduction of sound in 1930 (and further back in some cases) and details about more than 38,000 people. Most records include a comprehensive list of references to periodical articles.

One of the leading online resources for UK family history research. Use it to piece together the story of your British ancestors. It contains birth, marriage and death indexes, census returns from 1841-1911; a wealth of information from parish registers, UK military records and a huge number of English emigration records tracing the movement of passengers out of the UK from 1890 – 1960.

Find my past (Ireland)

Produced as a joint venture with the award winning Irish research and publishing house Eneclann, this site provides access to a range of Ireland specific resources, some of which have not previously been available online.  They include Irish prison registers, landed estates records, Griffith's valuations, historical national directories, indexes to wills up to 1858, military records of people involved in the 1798 Rebellion and of Irish men who lost their lives during WWI, gravestones and memorials, emigration records for individuals who left America Bound for Great Britain and Ireland, obituaries, and electoral rolls, 1832-1838.
