South-East Asia databases

Queenslanders have access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases that are not available through Google or other free search engines.

Onsite access at your public library or State Library
Onsite access is easy - visit your local Queensland public library or the State Library of Queensland and connect using one of the onsite computers.  You may also be able to access these databases using the library's wireless service.

Offsite access
To access these databases away from the library - from any computer connected to the internet (eg home or office) - you must be a Queensland resident and: 

  • own a State Library e-services card (register for an e-services card allowing 5 days to receive your card); 
    OR
  • be a member of a Queensland public library with a QPL account (register for a QPL account - immediate access after email verification)

A database of citations produced by the APEC Study Centre pertaining to Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation and related topics. Results include citations to books, conference papers, journal articles and reports.

ASIANRES: Asian resources - A Select Directory of Databases

This database indexes a wide range of Asia related internet and search services accessible from Australia . While some databases can be accessed for free, a subscription may apply for access to other sites. Subject coverage includes research in the social sciences and humanities in the Asian/Pacific region. For the purpose of this directory Asia is defined as the Indian subcontinent, East Asia and South East Asia.

BERITA

BERITA provides a bibliographical database of published and unpublished material relating to Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. Material relating to ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations) is also included.

BIPE: Bibliography of Indonesian politics and the economy

This bibliographical database indexes and abstracts items relating to politics, government and economy in Indonesia. BIPE is compiled by the School of Asian Studies, University of Sydney. Results include reference to books, book chapters, journal articles and dissertations. The original source documents are in either English or Indonesian.

INDBIO: Indian Biography Database

Provides access to biographical information on members of India's lower house (the Lok Sabha) between 1977 and 1991. Also includes death dates and citations to obituaries.

PDIP: Indonesian Learned Periodicals Database

PDIP is produced by the Centre for Scientific Documentation and Information - Indonesian Institution and is a bibliographic database that documents scientific and technological activity in Indonesia. Results include reference to journal articles, proceedings of conferences and seminars held in Indonesia. Most of the citations are in Indonesian.

PDIR: Indonesian Research Report Database

PDIR is a bibliographic database of scientific research in Indonesia. Produced by Centre for Scientific Documentation - Indonesian Institute of Sciences. Entries are predominantly in Indonesian with access to subjects in English.

PERIND: Periodicals Index

Produced by the National University of Singapore Library, PERIND indexes a range of journals on Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia and ASEAN. Although most of the journal articles date from 1980 onwards, the articles relating to medicine date from 1975, and law dates from 1932. From mid 1997, there are references to book chapters and conference papers.

Compiled by the National University of Singapore Library, this resource indexes and abstracts primary source material (such as microfilmed items of public records, government documents, and manuscripts) and published works relating to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN.
