Queenslanders have access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases that are not available through Google or other free search engines.

Onsite access at your public library or State Library
Onsite access is easy - visit your local Queensland public library or the State Library of Queensland and connect using one of the onsite computers.  You may also be able to access these databases using the library's wireless service.

To access these databases away from the library - from any computer connected to the internet (eg home or office) - you must be a Queensland resident and: 

  • own a State Library e-services card (apply for an e-services card allowing 5 days to receive your card); 
    OR
  • be a member of a Queensland public library with a QPL account (register for a QPL account - immediate access after email verification)

Australian Pastoral Directory 1923

This directory lists approximately 23,000 stockowners in all States of Australia. There is a seperate index for New South Wales by Station, a list of prominent stock agents in four states, and various statistics and advertisements. The whole 356 page directory is keyword searchable. It is useful not only for finding names, but also places, occupations and other information. Maps are included for New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria showing such things as pastures protection districts and pastoral districts as used in the directory.

Bailliere's Queensland Gazetteer and Road Guide

This is a digital reproduction of the original book published by F. F. Bailliere in 1876. There are thousands of localities that include entries for towns, lakes, rivers, islands, bays, hills, runs among others. Often given are the latitude and longitude, populations, local industries, hotels and many more. There is also a section listing approximately 3000 runs with the pastoral districts where they are situated along with the names of the lessees and the next post towns.

This provides the particulars of marriages from the Bishop of London's Office 1521 to 1828, the Dean and Chapter of Westminster's Office 1599 to 1699, The Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury 1543 to 1869, and the Vicar General's Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury 1660 to 1679. They were transcribed from Latin by Colonel Chester and published by Joseph Foster in 1887. It contains over 1,500 pages of entries.
