Voyage of the Rattlesnake
Captain Owen Stanley on Her Majesty's Surveying Vessel Rattlesnake was commissioned to: conduct the first systematic hydrographic survey of Hervey Bay; conduct an exploration of the Torres Strait; identify a safe anchorage at Cape York; and examine the southern part of New Guinea and the Louisiade Archipelago. 

Shipboard diaries
Four of the diaries describe 19th century immigration. Another diary was written on board a South Sea Islander labour recruitment ship in the 1890s. The sixth diary is from a post-World War II immigration voyage.
