MORE COLLECTIONS
The State Library of Queensland has more interesting collections on offer. These collections include The Garage collection, film, ephemera and whole lot more.
Film and videoThe film collection serves to enhance the State Library of Queensland as an educational, cultural and recreational resource. The collection supports the exploration and study of international and Australian screen culture and is complemented by book and journal holdings about all aspects of screen-based production, including its intersection with art, popular culture and industry. Films are acquired on the basis of information content and/or formal or artistic merit. Priority is given to acquiring films that are historically representative or path-breaking. The collection includes VHS videocassettes, Laser Disks and Digital Versatile Discs (DVD). 16mm and 35mm films are not acquired. |
The GarageEver thought of cruising to the beach in a classic convertible? Or restoring Auntie Edna's old Morris? Queensland is a haven for collectors of classic cars and their memorabilia. Relative affluence, a mild climate and plenty of space mean that old cars often survive for long periods lurking in garages and sheds, under houses or in the back paddock. The Garage combines the extensive resources for car restoration and repair from the State Reference Library with a collection of unique photographs on Queensland motoring from the John Oxley Library. The pages contain information on vehicles including cars and trucks from 1900 to the 1970s. |
Health and medicineThis collection includes books, journals, databases and audio visual materials which cover a wide range of health and medical topics. Medical dictionaries and encyclopaedias and works on diseases, family medicine, treatment of common ailments, public health and history of medicine are particular strengths. |
EphemeraEphemera is a class of material, generally printed, that falls outside traditional channels of publication, sale and library catalogues. It includes material which was widely distributed to the public and generally seen as transient or "throw away". Examples include menus, theatre programs, tickets, tourist brochures, political advertising material, invitations, greeting cards etc. Ephemera is an important source of information and can be a unique window into Queensland social life, customs, popular culture and political viewpoints. |
History and biographyThis is one of the largest areas of the general collection and a major component of the Heritage Collections. The general collection is strongest in Australian history, military history, European and British history and material about the two world wars. In the biography area, in addition to printed books and journals, there are many resources on microform which support genealogical research. This is supplemented by unpublished diaries and oral histories of Queenslander's located in the Heritage Collections. |
BusinessThe State Library collects books, journals and databases which cover all business topics. Particular strengths include trade and company information. Our online databases provide a broad topic coverage, including taxation, annual reports and statistics. |
Australian lawThe State Library collects primary and secondary material, including legislation, law reports, law journals and case citators. We also have an extensive collection of online legal databases. |
