FAMILY HISTORY
The State Library of Queensland has a large collection of genealogical resources. The resources cover records from Queensland, other Australian states and other countries. There are a significant number of resources relating to Australian and British ancestry.
ConvictsConvicts were transported to Australia between 1787 and 1868. Our collection includes copies of British and Australian government records with an emphasis on records for convicts transported to NSW.

General family history resourcesThe collection holds an extensive range of resources that can assist those wishing to find out about their ancestors - biographical resources, census records, electoral rolls and many more.

Births, deaths and marriagesThe indexes published by the Australian state registries of births, deaths and marriages form the central part of this collection. The indexes are supported by select parish records and an extensive newspaper collection, particularly for Queensland.

Immigration and shippingImmigration to Australia in the 19th and early 20th centuries was by ship. The collection consists mainly of Australian indexes and lists and is supported by many othe resources within the State Library's collections.

How do I access items in this collection?
Access at the State Library- Browse Levels 2, 3 and 4 or request from storage with your e-services card via One Search. Order stored items online 24 hours ahead of your visit and items should be waiting when you arrive.
- Use one of our computers to search for electronic journal, magazine and newspaper articles and to view images and manuscripts from our collection. You can book a computer with your e-services card for up to two hours per day.
- Bring your own laptop and access our electronic resources via our wireless service.
Access off-site
- Search One Search for electronic journal, magazine and newspaper articles. You will need to login with your e-services card or QPL account.
- Some State Library items are available for loan to other libraries. Contact your local library for information about interlibrary loan and copy services.
