The European Climate Diplomacy Day is part of a global effort by the European Union to raise awareness of climate change issues and to encourage informed debate in view of the United Nations climate change conference taking place in Paris at the end of the year. Events are planned for cities all around the globe.
State Library of Queensland hosted the event in Brisbane and started with the screening of the documentary The Climate Blueprint. The documentary served as a basis for an expert panel discussion with representatives from the business and scientific community, Australian political leaders, as well as a European representative. The discussion will be moderated by Jan Thomas, University of Southern Queensland Vice-Chancellor and CEO, and panellists include:
- The Honourable Dr Steven Miles, Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection and Minister for National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef.
- European Union Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Sem Fabrizi
- Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, Director, Global Change Institute, University of Queensland
- Kellie Caught, National Manager Climate Change, WWF-Australia
