Indigenous Library Services

State Library of Queensland, in partnership with many other organisations, aims to provide statewide library services to Queensland Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders.  Indigenous Library Services (ILS) advocates for the participation and inclusion of Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders in all library services.

Library services are provided through kuril dhagun, the network of Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs) and public libraries across Queensland.  Improving service and increasing employment and training opportunities in libraries for Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders are key strategies for future development.

ILS also works to ensure that Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultural heritage are fully and respectfully represented both in public libraries and in the State Library.  The Indigenous Advisory Group to the Library Board of Queensland provides a formal mechanism for guidance and advice.
