Strategic Partnerships and the Edge development

Tory Jones - Project Director

Construction works have commenced on site to transform the vacant auditorium building adjacent to the State Library, into The Edge – new centre for young people.

The Edge will be a place for experimentation and creativity, which provides new and digital tools to enable the exploration of critical ideas, green initiatives, new design practices, and media-making. Rigorous outreach, committed partners and a strong curatorial vision ensure that the Edge is a platform for pushing personal boundaries of creativity and distributing what is made through a lively program of events and exhibitions.

Informal spaces will abound for discussion and the pursuit of individual and group activities, that foster a sense of community, a commitment to collaboration, and a spirit of openness. Local and international residency opportunities will bring catalysts to the Edge to weave networks and stimulate the creative practice and productivity that takes place. Inspiring workshops and forums for ideas exchange, led by the catalysts and emerging practitioners and researchers are the core of The Edge program, and support all levels of engagement.

The target completion date for building works in October 2009.
