Library Board of Queensland
The Library Board is the governing body of the State Library of Queensland and draws its powers from the Libraries Act 1988. The object of this Act is to contribute to the cultural, social and intellectual development of all Queenslanders.
The Library Board has adopted a Code of Conduct [new window
211KB] which all members uphold and which has been approved by the Minister for Education and Minister for the Arts.
The Library Board is committed to improving access to information and knowledge for all Queenslanders. The Board periodically meets outside of Brisbane to keep informed about local issues and to strengthen relationships with local councils and the community.
Library Board membership
- Ms Jane Bertelsen, Chairperson, who has had extensive experience as a senior executive with local, regional, state and international organisations, and over twenty years experience in project analysis and policy development and has been continuously involved in decision-making, advice and implementation activities in the management of major organisations (Chairperson)
- Ms Margaret Strelow, Deputy Chairperson, former Mayor of Rockhampton
- Mr John Birmingham, Queensland author
- Professor Stuart Cunningham, Professor of Media and Communications at QUT, and Director of the Australian Research Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation
- Mr Max Lenoy, Lecturer in the School of Education at James Cook University, and Director of the Remote Area Teacher Education Program
- Mr Matthew J McDonnell, partner at KPMG
- Mr Aladin Rahemtula, Supreme Court Librarian
- Ms Janice Rickards, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Information Services at Griffith University
- Dr Grace Sarra, Senior Lecturer in Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Caboolture
Under the Libraries Act 1988 (Queensland) the State Librarian, Lea Giles-Peters, must attend all meetings of the Board unless excused or precluded by the Board.
Library Board committee
The Library Board has appointed the Audit and Risk Management Committee to advise and inform the Library Board on issues that arise with the scope of the committee.
Advisory Groups
The Library Board appoints a number of Advisory Groups which, whilst not undertaking the functions of the Board, provide strategic advice and act as a consultative arm.
