| The State Library of Queensland holds a large collection of visual arts resources on painting, sculpture, architecture, graphic arts, decorative arts and photography. The State Reference Library houses the general arts collections, while the Australian Library of Art holds Australian art collections of books, exhibition catalogues, private press publications, artists' books, ephemera and archival collections. | |||

| State Library's collections contain primary and secondary reference sources for research info families who come from various time periods, places, occupations and activities. Resources include births, deaths and marriage indexes, electoral rolls, convict records, and immigration and shipping records. Information guides and web-bases resources relating to genealogical research can be accessed through the State Library's website. A free state wide information service is available for those needing help with family history research. | |||

| This collection covers a wide range of health and medical topics. Medical dictionaries and encyclopaedias, and works on diseases, family medicine, treatments of common ailments, public health and history of medicine are particular strengths. Also held are videos on a range of topics, and a number of well known, authoritative journals. Online access to several health and medical databases is available through the State Library's website. | |||

| State Library holds many published and unpublished history resources. Materials on Australian and world history are held in the State Reference Library. The John Oxley Library holds resources on Queensland history, including books, journals, newspapers, archives, and manuscripts, as well as photographs and works of art depicting Queensland scenes. | |||

| State Library has a significant law related collection, particularly for Australian and Queensland jurisdictions. Key tools and finding aids include legal dictionaries, handbooks, encyclopaedias, and plain English guides. Additional strengths of the collection are legal cases, law reports and legislation. In addition, a wide range of relevant sources are available online via the State Library's website. | |||

| The State Reference Library has extensive holdings of Australian and international literature. The collection is primarily an English language one, with strengths in Australian, New Zealand, English and American literature. It is particularly strong in areas such as poetry and the art of writing. Queensland literature is collected at a research level by the John Oxley Library and includes printed and manuscript material. The Australian Library of Art has an almost complete collections of publications of Australian private presses and a significant collection of Australian literary magazines from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. | |||

| State Library's Maps Collections comprise topographic, cadastral, hydrographic and orthophoto sheet maps, globes, atlases, rare and unique historical maps and early estate maps. A major emphasis of the collection is Queensland and early Australian exploration and discovery, as well as the current mapping of Australia and the world. | |||

| The State Reference Library's music collection contains scores, sheet music, popular music albums, books about music and musicians, serials, electronic resources, sound recordings, and a large collection of vinyl LP recordings. The John Oxley Library collection includes compositions by Queenslanders, serials published in Queensland, sound recordings, sheet music and music manuscripts, hymn books, handbooks, and other reference material in hymnology dating from 1637. John Oxley Library also collects ephemera such as concert programs, posters and photographs. | |||

| State Library holds the world's largest collection of pictorial material relating to the social and cultural history of Queensland. Photographs and works of art are available from the John Oxley Library. Selected images are available online through the Picture Queensland website. The State Library also offers a photographic copying service for images held in the collection. | |||

| The State Library holds many interesting and valuable collections including long runs of journals and extensive collections of Australian newspapers. As well as purchasing current material, the State Library retains its older collections which provide valuable research material. Collections cover most areas of knowledge including the humanities, science and technology, and the social sciences. | |||
