Library Board of Queensland Award
Winner 2009
Congratulations to the University of Queensland Library (UQL) Cyberschool for the development of Cyberschool [new window], a website that connects thousands of school students across the state to the university’s library services and resources.
The UQL Cyberschool is an outreach program of the University of Queensland Library connecting schools, school libraries and school students to university library services and resources. It aims to bridge the gap between high school and university. It provides students, particularly those disadvantaged by distance, with the opportunity to experience university research skills and the tertiary environment. The UQL Cyberschool community includes 331 secondary schools in Queensland and 83 interstate schools. Currently 225 schools have 719 subscriptions to online databases, used by thousands of secondary school student daily to access information for assignments. In 2009 the UQL Cyberschool is celebrating 10 years of operation. The Award’s Judging Panel agreed that the UQL Cyberschool nomination is the clear winner in terms of impact, scale, and reach. The Cyberschool nomination demonstrates both a sustained impact on a large group of people, and a significant collaboration between libraries and their diverse client groups.
