On 5 September 2016, Vicki McDonald commenced her appointment as State Librarian and Chief Executive Officer, State Library of Queensland (SLQ).

Vicki is an experienced senior executive with extensive experience in the library sector, state and local governments and tertiary education.

For the past three years, Vicki was engaged as Executive Director Library & Information Services at State Library of NSW where she managed the Library’s collections valued at $3.14B.

Prior to SLNSW, she was Associate Director (Library Services) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Her appointment as State Librarian and CEO at State Library of Queensland renews a relationship that started in 2001, when she was seconded from Brisbane City Council to SLQ as Acting Director Policy Development, progressing to the permanent role of Executive Director Policy and Development and then to Director Client Services and Collections from 2002 to 2009.

Ms McDonald enjoyed her previous experience of SLQ and feels both respect for and an affinity with the organisation, so she is excited by this opportunity to lead this dynamic institution.

Throughout her career Vicki has been an active member of ALIA and IFLA, and she is currently the Vice-President/President Elect of ALIA and Chair of the IFLA Academic & Research Libraries Standing Committee.
