We’ve all changed the way we search for and access information. These days we expect to find what we’re looking for online, from wherever we are in the world. SLQ is working to deliver online access to a range of historical resources - items currently only available to people who can visit State Library in person – but we need your help to do more.

The Legacy Partners Program aims to digitise important historical items so anyone can discover and share how Queensland has developed. Aside from improved access, digitisation helps to safeguard these items for the future. The delicate originals can be stored safely, while the digital versions are shared online with people all over the world.

Mapping Queensland’s Real Estate history

Have you got a passion for property? Is your school looking for ways to bring local history to life? Are you interested to know more about preserving property records?

Our first Legacy Partners project involves digitising part of SLQ’s unique collection of real estate maps and plans, to make them available via multiple online platforms. The maps document 100 years of selling property in Queensland from the 1850s to mid 1950s and include fascinating clues about the history of land use in our towns and cities.

These historical gems were stored for decades, gathering dust in cardboard boxes, before being deposited with SLQ. The maps have now been treated, and many conserved, with 800 chosen for digitisation.

If you’ve ever wondered about the origins of your land, suburb or school – this could be the project for you.  SLQ is seeking individual supporters, businesses in the real estate or property industry, or schools (individually or with other schools) to donate $1000 each to support the digitisation of these 800 Queensland real estate maps.

• Join the Legacy Partners Program by completing and sending us the giving form, and we’ll contact you to get started, and help you select five maps you wish to support.
• Our experts will get to work making these maps available to people, wherever they are.
• You’ll receive a digital copy of one map of your choice after the digitisation process is complete (gifts over $3,000 will also receive a framed copy).
• SLQ’s catalogue entry will acknowledge the Legacy Partners Program.
• As part of our family of supporters, you’ll receive all the latest news and invitations to other special events.
• You’ll be invited to continue your support of the Legacy Partners Program when we begin the next important phase.
