Deadly Digital Communities – dream big

The Deadly Digital Communities program encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to dream big through digital literacy to create and unlock new opportunities and new possibilities for themselves and their community.

Deadly Digital Communities provides community-based digital literacy and technology training over two years to 26 remote and regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Queensland.

Participants will learn digital skills from sending an email to using social media to paying bills online to promoting a new business idea and more.

Deadly Digital Communities will help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to build and enhance their digital literacy skills and enable communities to interact in the digital world irrespective of where they live.

Digital literacy is an essential skill in the digital age as more services and daily interactions move online. The Australian Digital Inclusion Index reports that digital inclusion is steadily increasing in Australia. However on multiple digital inclusion dimensions, access to digital technologies and digital skill building is limited for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Deadly Digital Communities will help close the digital divide in Queensland by encouraging people in remote and regional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to develop digital literacy skills and use digital technologies to access health, social and financial services.

The program will commence in August 2017 and roll out over two years.
