Stories spring to life with the State Library's Summer Reading Club
The Summer Reading Club, www.summerreadingclub.slq.qld.gov.au, is a state-wide program run by the State Library of Queensland, offering children from 0 to 16 years a broad range of activities to inspire and entertain during the holiday period.
State Librarian Lea Giles-Peters said research has shown that children who read for pleasure are the best readers.

Queensland’s hottest slam poets throw down their words at State Library
After months of slamming their words across the state, 16 finalists will polish their prose and let their words take flight as they vie for cash, prizes and the opportunity to compete in Sydney for the national title.
The national competition, now in its fourth year, has been gaining momentum since its inception, garnering a huge response in communities the state over.

State Library and Nielson Properties win AbaF SME award
State Library and Nielson Properties have been working together to deliver the annual Nielson Design Lecture series, bringing global leaders in design to Brisbane to speak with design practitioners and organisations from across the state, inspiring creative thinking for the future development of Queensland.
As winners of the Queensland awards, the partnership will now go to the national AbaF Award, to be announced in Sydney on 21 October.

State Librarian Lea Giles-Peters said Dr Rickertt, University of Queensland Fryer Library librarian and author of Resistance on the Line, was awarded the fellowship to research and write a biography of Ernest Lane, titled Ernie Lane, Australian Labour’s Resolute Rebel.

New Treasures on show at the State Library
The diversity of the State Library of Queensland’s collections will be showcased when the New Treasures exhibition opens on 13 March.
New Treasures brings together more than 40 extraordinary items recently added to the State Library’s collection – revealing how the collection continues to grow in size, scope and diversity.
State Librarian Lea Giles-Peters said the items on display have been selected from over 100,000 acquisitions which were added to the collections in 2008 and 2009. View the virtual exhibition.
