Self-guided experiences
Explore State Library's stories and knowledge at your own pace.
Art in public spaces
35 max (including adults) | Years 9–12 | 2-hour session | 10 am – 12 pm / 12.30 – 2.30 pm
Explore three major public art works within the State Library building across level 1 and level 4, in a self-guided experience. These major works by First Nations women include MAIWAR Yunggulba (2017) by Megan Cope, Kurilpa Country by Lilla Watson, and Black Opium (2006) by Fiona Foley. Download the dedicated State Library education resource.
Bookings are essential to ensure MAIWAR Yunggulba by Megan Cope is accessible in kuril dhagun, a dedicated cultural and multi-purpose space celebrating First Nations knowledge and stories.
Independent study
35 max (including adults) | Years 5–12 | 2-hour session
Book our school area on level 3 including large tables for study and quiet instruction, and access to the State Reference library.
We may be able to accommodate larger school groups up to a maximum of 55 students at a time. Any groups larger than 35 will require additional seating that will be organised by library staff prior to your school’s attendance. Please note that dedicated librarian assistance is not provided with this booking (if you require help with assessment topics or preparation, please book Research experience).
Treasure hunt
35 max (including adults) | Years 5–10 | 2-hour session | 10 am – 12pm / 12.30 pm – 2.30 pm
Explore the State Library in a self-guided 'Treasure hunt' experience that grows positive relationships with library systems and spaces! Teachers direct small groups of 2-10 students to carry out tasks that ensure connection with all five floors of the building. For primary groups, additional adult supervision must be provided by the school for each small group of students.
Download the dedicated State Library resource for the self-guided 'Treasure hunt' experience.
